Effective lighting enhances focus, reduces eye strain, and keeps you comfortable all day. Our lighting guide helps you select the perfect home office light.
Good lighting makes a bigger difference than you think, especially when you’re working from home. The right setup keeps you focused, reduces eye strain, and helps you stay comfortable through long workdays.
What matters?
✔ Brightness (lumen): Enough light to see clearly without squinting.
✔ Colour temperature (Kelvin): Cooler light helps you concentrate.
✔ Even light distribution: No harsh contrasts or annoying glare.
It’s also key to have adjustable lighting that works with your setup. Poor lighting doesn’t just make work harder, it can lead to tired eyes, headaches, and tension in your neck and shoulders from constantly adjusting your posture tosee better.
The measure of brightness
Lumen shows how much light a lamp gives. The higher the number, the brighter the light. For a cosy glow, around 200 lumen is enough. For focused work at the home office, go for 700–800 lumen or more.
Lux measures how much light actually reaches your workspace. Around 500 lux is ideal for reading, writing and staying sharp.
“The right colour temperature supports both concentration and comfort.”
Get the right colour temperature
Kelvin measures the colour temperature of light, from warm and golden to cool and crisp. Outdoors, it shifts from around 2500K at sunset to over 10,000K in bright daylight. Indoors, the right Kelvin sets the tone for your space.
Lower Kelvin = warmer, softer light. Think atmosphere and relaxation.
Higher Kelvin = cooler, clearer light. Sharper, more focused.
A colour temperature between 3000K-4000K is ideal for the home office. A clean, neutral white light that helps you stay focused and productive.
Why even light spread matters
It’s not just about brightness and colour temperature, how the light spreads across your workspace matters too. A good desk lamp should give even, glare-free light across your whole work surface. That way, you avoid reflections and eye strain.
An elongated LED provides balanced, symmetrical light, perfect for focused tasks. The light should hit what you’re working on, not in your eyes or someone else’s. And of course: adjustable arms and flexible angles make it easier to get the light exactly where you need it.
